  All I can say is wow.  The brisket at La Barbecue has ruined all other briskets for us for the foreseeable future, as we do not live in Texas.  That being said, while in town, husband and I tried plenty of other famous briskets--this was by far the best.
  
  After a fairly long flight, this place was our first destination stop, as I had been reading up on brisket and giant beef rib joints online and asking for local opinions from friends.
  
  I was seriously in the mood for a drink.  That day (and that week, for that matter) the temperature was 100+.  Luckily, La Barbecue is attached to the Quickie Pickie, which I expected to be your average convenience store--definitely not the case.  Although the restaurant is not affiliated, they use their space, and the QP has a vast array of wine, beer, and other libations to choose from.  I mean vast.  I chose a good quality bottle of rose and husband chose beer, and we sidled up to the counter to order.
  
  We looked a little like aged aliens amongst mainly millennial hipsters, and ordering was just as awkward.  I knew the drill better than husband, so I ordered a pound and a half of brisket, in two separate orders, and a homemade jalapeño sausage.  I asked for the house jalapeño pickles and some onions on the side.  At first I was confused because it all came on one tray with butcher paper for both of us instead of separate plates, I'm such an idiot. The staff kindly, if a little incredulously, 'splained to us, we paid, and looked for seats.
  
  Seating consists of community long tables inside and picnic tables outside on the covered patio.  Despite the heat, we went outside after grabbing some sauce on the side.  It was pretty busy indoors.
  
  The brisket was fabulous.  It blew our minds.  Amazing smoke, great crust, and most of all, meltingly fatty and moist, which for me is the point.  The raw white onion and lightly pickled jalapeños were the perfect accompaniment.  Although tasty, the sauce was entirely unnecessary and we basically ate everything as is.  The homemade sausage was good, but a little chunky for me.
  
  At the end of this meal we were both piñatas, but it was just awesome.  Thanks La Barbecue for really schooling us in true Texas brisket.  It will be our first stop when we come back!

  Being from California I expected a lot from Texas barbecue. After consulting reddit and finding out that salt lick and Franklin's Are nightmares as far restaurant itraffic is concerned The next best thing was  la barbecue.
  I was highly disappointed in the pork sandwich. Very bland. The pork was dry and the sauce did not match the sandwich.
  The staff was also very rude and unpleasant.  Not friendly at all did not answer questions and overall made us feel very uncomfortable.
  Even stared at my wife. At least the two people at the register did.
  My wife had the pork ribs which were good , only reason why we gave them two stars !
  The beans were hella salty! We even threw them away because they were so salty and we hate wasting food.
  I probably would not visit this place again. Very disappointing.

  Pork ribs were the best. Great sides. Kept clean and neat. Staff up keeps the the restaurant well.

  One-hour wait for the absolute best bbq of my life? Sign me up!!
  It can be aggravating waiting particularly for this joint because it's not an efficient line like other bbq joints where you order meat, then sides, then pay in consecutive order but rather you take care of it all at once, with each person's individual order, at a time. But once you finally sit down with your food you'll quickly realize it's not only worth the wait but probably the bbq you've ever eaten. Idk what on earth they season it with, but I've never reacted to a bite of meat like I have here at la bbq. So wear a big hat and sip on a cold one to make the wait a bit more bearable!

  Came in on a Friday afternoon in a group of five. Waited about 45 minutes in air conditioning and split one rib with two sides with my sister all for $42.
  
  The food here is heavily seasoned and decently spicy. Texas is NOT playing when it comes to flavor (we saw a Guy Fieri on 6th st...We were definitely in Flavortown. Population: ME.). Don't skip out on ordering a few slices of bread or a regular pickle as a palate cleanser. Definitely worth the few extra dollars. The beans and pickle chips are SPICY. But also so good. If you're on the fence about the shells 'n cheese, just get it!!
  
  Needless to say, between my sister and I, we definitely brought leftovers back to the Airbnb.
